Middle Tennessee State University
School of Nursing
LPN to BSN Program

This accelerated program will allow Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) with previously acquired knowledge and skills in nursing an opportunity to obtain a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Middle Tennessee State University.  Upon successful completion of the program, these individuals will be eligible to write the NCLEX-RN.  The purpose of the LPN to BSN proposal is to increase the number of registered nurses in the state of Tennessee.

Students will be admitted in cohorts.  With sufficient numbers for classes to make, cohorts will be admitted every fall and spring semesters. The LPN to BSN program will utilize in class and hybrid course formats.

Admission requirements will mirror generic BSN admission criteria which are as follows:

  1. LPN admission testing will be validated by successfully passing the LPN licensure examination. Students must be currently licensed.
  2. Admissions forms for MTSU must be obtained from the Admissions Office, Cope 208, (615) 898-2111.
  3. A pre-nursing information/application form must be obtained from the School of Nursing, Cason Kennedy Building 201, be completed and on file with the School of Nursing by the admission deadline.
  4. Copies of all official transcripts must be sent to the School of Nursing.
  5. Transcript validation of all prerequisites must be on file in the MTSU Records Office by February 1 for fall admission with copies to the School of Nursing.  A cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.75 is required for unconditional admission into upper-division nursing.  Applicants must have no grade less than a C (2.00) in any required prerequisite course.
  6. Students must maintain a minimum of C (2.00) in all nursing courses.
  7. Pre-nursing students are expected to seek advising from the School of Nursing each semester to ensure that they are following the proper sequence for completion of the prerequisite courses.
  8. Transfer students should see a nursing advisor and have an updated information/application form and progression to the second semester sophomore year form on file in the School of Nursing.

Each semester, applicants will be considered for the 50 available slots in the LPN/BSN program. Admission is dependent, not only on meeting basic criteria, but competitive, as the top 50 applicants will be accepted. An applicant consists of those LPNs who apply for any given semester.

Each applicant pool will be considered separately.  Students not admitted in an applicant pool must reapply for consideration in the next pool.
