  Directors Appointed

Associate Director for On-Ground Programs

Dr. Jenny Sauls has accepted the appointment of Associate Director for On Ground Programs in the School of Nursing this past September 2, 2004.  Dr. Sauls has double-digit years of experience in the School of Nursing at MTSU, and is a 1981 graduate of MTSU’s Associate Degree program.  She received her Master’s in Nursing Administration from Vanderbilt University and her Doctor of Science in Nursing with a focus on Nursing Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2000.  Jenny is certified in ‘Medical-Surgical’ nursing through the American Nurses Credentialing Center.  Her primary practice area is critical care nursing.

Dr. Sauls was selected through a national competitive process to be an Academic Leadership Fellow through the American Association of College of Nursing (AACN) in 2003.  She is a past recipient of the Foundation Awards for “Outstanding Educator.”  Dr. Sauls is committed to undergraduate education and is frequently cited by students for “making a real difference in their lives.”


Associate Director for Oline Programs

Dr. Karen Ward was selected to be the Associate Director for Online Programs effective September 2, 2004 as well.  Karen has been the RN to BSN Coordinator since 1999, and in the year 2000 the program went 100% online.  Since going online, the RN to BSN program has realized a greater than 200% increase in enrollment.  Many RNs have shared that the program is perfect for their busy lives – caring for families, maintaining full-time employment, and being able to attend school at 3:00 a.m.!

Karen too has double-digit years of service to the School of Nursing.  She received her MSN from Vanderbilt University with a focus on Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing and her PhD from Cornell University, in Ithica, NY with her major field of study in Developmental Psychology, and her minor fields in Social Development and Psychology - Nutrition.  Karen has received the award from the College of Continuing Studies for her work with distance education.  She is certified in online instruction through the Learning Resources Network (LERN).
